The ultimate goal of combat preparation is twofold: combining
calmness and determination to create the correct mindset and at
the same time conditioning the body in such a way that a fighter
moves naturally in accordance with martial principles. Drills,
technique practice, fencing theory, tactical and psychological
education are all brought together in sparring and freeplay. Such
combat simulations are supplemented by cutting practice and drills
with sharp blades.
Today, training swordsmanship is – fortunately – not required for
survival. Its purpose is solely recreational. Yet pursuit of excellence
remains a demanding affair, requiring many years of disciplined training.
